We are very proud to reveal one of our biggest DIY projects: the library!

BEFORE

The moment we moved in we realized that this sunny, south-facing den would be a perfect library.  I instantly imagined myself sipping my morning coffee there while reading books and magazines. The first thing we did was removing the Murphy bed and those awful drapes and then repainting the walls. The room got so much brighter and inviting! It was already a huge change, but it took us another year to complete the project.

AFTER

After months of thinking and planning we felt ready to tackle the project. We decided to simply hack IKEA Billy bookcases! To start, we painted the wall navy blue and added metallic stenciling to create an interesting background.  We wanted something geometric and classy, and THIS Art Deco pattern from Cutting Edge Stencils was just perfect. Then we repainted the bookcases and customized them with lots of decorative molding. Finally, we installed LED strips under the shelves and two swing-arm sconces. And here is the result: our DIY bookcase!  We’re still waiting for that perfect centerpiece to find us and we’re looking forward to filling all those gaps with more books and artwork, but we couldn’t resist to share it with you now.

The next project here is a rolling ladder, as it is quite hard to reach those highest shelves. And if you are curious how the whole process of building this bookcase looked like, check this post!
